The International Maritime Organization called on Member States to protect merchant shipping and seafarers as conflict-related attacks continue to disrupt major trade routes. IMO said its verified incident count around the Strait of Hormuz had reached 80 attacks, with at least 22 seafarer deaths.
Conflicts must not be used as pretext to attack merchant ships.
The U.S. Maritime Administration designated 16 additional training institutions as 2026 Centers of Excellence. MARAD says the expanded network now includes 48 institutions across 87 facilities in 28 states and territories.
